You may have a menstrual cycle "disorder" if one or more of the symptoms you experience prior to or during your period give you problems.

These consist of:

• Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB), which includes severe menstrual bleeding, no menstrual flow (amenorrhea), and bleeding in between periods (irregular menstrual bleeding)
• Dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual periods)
• Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) (PMS)
• Premenstrual Dysphoria Disorder (PMDD)

You should keep track of the length and frequency of your periods in order to aid in the diagnosis of menstrual disorders. Note any extra symptoms you experience, such as cramping, and be ready to talk about your medical history. You would also be asked to have basic blood tests, a pelvic ultrasound, a hysteroscopy, an endometrial tissue sample, and, if necessary, a laparoscopy. The course of treatment is determined by the results and the patient's symptoms and profile.
